MBS (Modified Basic Strategy)
If all blackjack players consistently played out their hands according to correct BS as presented in chapter 3, there is no doubt that the casinos would be forced to discontinue the game. Playing perfect BS under favorable blackjack rules cuts the casino percentage advantage to zero (or less, when liberal rules variations apply). Expenses would far exceed any profits they could hope to obtain. They would be able to offer their patrons only games such as roulette, craps, slots, etc., in which skill is not a factor. (Perhaps poker, too, could continue to exist, because the casinos automatically take their percentage from every pot won, no matter how skilled the players.) But it is certain that if everyone adopted perfect BS, the house couldn’t possibly make enough money from blackjack to pay its employees’ wages, let alone all the additional overhead costs involved. The game as we know it would quickly wither and die.
